Homepage
How Signal's homepage is built from a hero and a stack of self-building sections — and a one-glance checklist of what to create for each.
Signal's homepage is a hero at the top, followed by a stack of sections — Featured episodes, your hosts and guests, an About panel, sponsors, a support call-to-action, and a newsletter signup. You don't switch these on and off in a settings panel. Instead, each section appears on its own the moment you add the content that feeds it, and quietly disappears when there's nothing to show.
That means building your homepage is really just a checklist: add the content for a section, and the section shows up.
How the homepage is composed
From top to bottom, your homepage can include:
- Hero — the big opening. Pick one of six layouts.
- Watch & listen on — the row of podcast-app buttons.
- Featured episodes — episodes you've marked as featured.
- Recent conversations — your newest episodes, automatically.
- From the blog — your latest written posts (if you publish any).
- Meet the hosts — your show's regular hosts.
- Recent guests — people who've appeared as guests.
- About the show — a short "who we are" panel.
- Brought to you by — your sponsors' logos.
- Support the show — membership tiers and donations.
- Newsletter — the email signup.
Sections build themselves
You never see an empty or half-finished section. If you haven't added guests yet, the Recent guests section simply isn't there — and it appears automatically the day you add your first one. The same is true for every section below the hero.
Homepage setup checklist
Most sections come from ordinary Ghost content you're already creating (episodes, staff, tiers). A few are powered by a special page — a normal Ghost page you publish with an exact URL slug (for example, a page whose slug is about). This table shows what each section needs.
| Section | What to create | Needed? |
|---|---|---|
| Hero | Pick a layout in theme settings. Five of the six layouts read a page slugged home-hero | Optional — falls back to your latest episode |
| Watch & listen on | Add your podcast-app links (a quick code snippet) | Optional |
| Featured episodes | Turn on Feature for any episode | Optional |
| Recent conversations | Nothing — it shows your newest episodes automatically | Automatic |
| From the blog | Publish posts tagged #blog | Optional |
| Meet the hosts | Your Ghost staff (optionally a page slugged hosts to curate) | Optional |
| Recent guests | Guest authors (optionally a page slugged guests to curate) | Optional |
| About the show | A page slugged about | Optional |
| Brought to you by | A page slugged sponsors with your logos | Optional |
| Support the show | A page slugged support | Required for this section |
| Newsletter | Nothing — it's always shown (a page slugged newsletter-cta can customize the wording) | Automatic |
One section always needs its page
The Support the show section only appears if you've published a page slugged support. Turning on paid tiers alone won't make it show up. See Support the show.
