Newsletter page
A dedicated signup page that lists your recent issues automatically, so a reader can see what they are subscribing to before they hand over an address.
A page whose whole job is the signup: a headline, a promise, one field, and underneath it the last five things you sent. Readers subscribe to a letter far more readily when they can see it.
Create the page
Make sure memberships are on: Settings → Membership, with Access set to something other than Nobody.
Go to Pages → New page and write your headline as the title.
In the editor's settings panel, set Template to Newsletter.
Fill in the excerpt and the meta description (see the table below), then publish.
Add it to your menu at Settings → Navigation.

The recent issues list
Under the form, Quiet lists five posts with their titles, a line of their excerpt and their dates, followed by a Full archive link.
Which five depends on the page's primary tag:
- With a public tag on the page, the list shows the newest five posts carrying that tag. This is the one to use if your letter is a subset of your writing: tag the posts you email, for example Field Notes, and tag the page the same way.
- With no public tag, the list shows your five newest posts.

The body is yours
Anything you write in the body renders as a band between the form and the issue list, with your normal article formatting. It is a good place for a sample paragraph, a short list of what a reader gets, or a note about how often you write.
Leave it empty and the page goes straight from the form to the issues.
Readers who are already signed in
A signed-in member sees a short "You are already subscribed" line in place of the form, and still gets the issue list. On a site with memberships switched off, there is no form at all.
No second signup at the foot
Most templates in Quiet end with a signup band. This page does not: it would be asking the same question twice on the same screen.
